A Brief Callback
This post on PunkAssBlog (by way of Pharyngula) touches on a phenomenon I noted way back in my first ever blog post. A week ago.
Is the spite directed at Speaker Pelosi really just an expression of femiphobia? Or just mainly? It certainly doesn’t help that the right wing are incredibly resentful at being first kicked out of office and then shown up when it turned out that all the Democratic talk about actually, you know, passing legislation and accomplishing things that would help real people in the real world rather than just waiting for President Bush to ask them to rubber stamp something like, say, legalising torture.
It seems more likely to me that they hate Speaker Pelosi first for being an outspoken liberal and that her being a woman is just an extra slap in the face. Not only do they have to say goodbye to unchallenged Republican rule but also the Old Boys’ Club of DC. Gee, it must really suck to be an anti-feminist troglodyte in the 21st Century.
