Growing a Pair
Good on Harry Reid.
For those not paying attention, the Republicans have been acting like obstructionist jackasses from basically the moment the 110th Congress began. They don’t want the Democrats to get any credit for anything this session, because they know that with Bush’s approval ratings in the tank and the American people finally getting pissed off about Iraq, the only chance they have in ‘08 is to make the Democrats look limp and ineffective. Personally, I’d take ineffective over malicious any day, but that’s still their best hope.
But it looks like the Democratic leadership is finally going to respond. Perhaps the delay in taking action, as frustrating as it was, is for the best in the long run. After all, had the Democrats been playing hardball right out of the gate, the Republicans would accuse them of being petty and vindictive. Which they will, no doubt, try anyway, but at least this way the Democrats can shrug and say, “Well, you had your shot to play nice, but you blew it.”
Even Rahmn Emmanuel, who I typically think of as representing the worst of the Democratic party (i.e., the DLC), is getting in on the “actually doing something about the Bush administration” bandwagon by threatening to defund Cheney’s office.
All I can say, to any Democratic congresspeople reading this blog, is keep it up. Keep it up until these maniacs are out of office, one way or another.
